Bus station roofs

Hamburg Barmbek (D) 2011/2012

winner of the competition in 2004 ap plan/ formTL

With 60.000 passengers per day, Hamburg- Barmbek is the third largest railway station of Hamburg.

It is located on properties of the „Deutsche Bahn AG“ and the „Hamburger Hochbahn AG“. At first in 1906 the city railway was built. In 1912 the metro and in 1960 the northern bus station were added.

The intended friendly, bright and illuminated canopies are of special importance to the urban development of the station and its surrounding.

Therefore formTL has developed a modular steel construction:
– cushions illuminated from inside, an invisible air-supply and a hidden drainage.
