formTL

was set up by the former IPL team in 2004, and it has grown steadily from the original 10 team members to the current 24 employees. In 2009, formTL was certified according to the “Planer am Bau” quality label. In 2012, the company moved into new office premises in Schiesser’s former boiler house in Radolfzell. In 2021, Fridolin Mall und Christian Würfl joined Bernd Stimpfle and Sven Haag in the management team.

OUR AIM

is to offer you an optimal consultancy service and to bring together the right team of specialists to find the solutions. Our customers come to us because we can see the whole picture: we are creative, work on short timelines and provide a skilled, proficient service for a reasonable fee. Calculating and engineering is what we enjoy, and we aim for the clarity of simple functional details and logical structures.

WE ARE

structural engineers and architects with an integrated approach to form, function, sustainability and planning quality. We offer a consultancy service, design, optimise, calculate and deliver feasibility studies and tenders for your investment insurance.

Others may stop but formTL keeps going: we are still at your side to offer support after the approval planning and detailed design phase. Our expert site management controls costs and ensures quality and timelines.

When needed, our professional assessments ensures clarity. We are on hand to provide specialised engineering services and support in obtaining individual approvals or official building documentation. For contractors, we compile assembly plans, workshop drawings and machine-readable production data which include all necessary information for production, assembly and material planning.

SUPPORTING AND LIGHTWEIGHT STRUCTURES

Our longstanding design philosophy for lightweight construction is to reduce weight in order to minimise the resources required. We are guided by this principle when designing and dimensioning structures and structural elements in steel, aluminium, wood, concrete and cables. We apply the same approach to the design and detailing of building envelopes in membrane, foil, glass, metal, fibreglass, polycarbonate, steel mesh and other suitable materials. High levels of prefabrication, short building times and optimised manufacturing and transport costs are significant features of this type of lightweight construction.

STRUCTURES FOR EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS

Thanks to our long experience in international trade fair construction, we are familiar with the requirements of existing buildings and also know the respective contact partners. These contacts mean that many decision-making and coordination processes can be speeded up considerably and planning security can be achieved even during the design phase. We are inspired by the opportunities this planning segment offers. It provides great scope for implementing new technologies at the highest design levels.

ARCHITECTURAL [ART]WORK

is a particular challenge; a challenge formTL is happy to take on. This is how the Reichstagsverhüllung (Wrapped Reichstag) with Christo and Jeanne-Claude was created in 1995, the Modern Teahouse by Kengo Kuma in 2007, the Tubaloon by Snøhetta in 2006 and, in conjunction with the Performing Arts Academy, the Lichtwolke (Cloud of Light) pavilion at Raumwelten (Spatial Worlds) in Ludwigsburg. with the Akademie der Bildenden Künste and the Hochschule für Technik in Stuttgart, as well as the sculptural net installation with Janet Echelmann in 2021 on Munich’s Odeonsplatz as part of the IAA.

TOOLS

We have developed our own software for form finding and patterning membrane structures. The software’s data output can be adapted to the project or the customer’s cutting plotter. We use Autodesk Inventor, Rhino/Grasshopper and Revit for parametric engineering design.

AutoCAD, RSTAB/RFEM, IDEA StatiCa, SJ Mepla, SAP2000, WinNetz!, TLLoad, TLform, Easy, 3ds MAX, OpenFOAM (Computational fluid dynamics) complement our range of tools.

BIM

(Building Information Modeling)
We design using Autocad, , Rhino, Autodesk Inventor and Revit.
Our 3D-models are BIM-compatible and can be used by our planning partners for communication, review and further processing.

Speculative Application

We are happy to welcome talented and committed employees. If you are interested in being a member of varying project teams and working in a positive work environment on interesting and unusual projects for our international clients, please apply here.

CERTIFICATION

We are TÜV Rheinland certified in compliance with the quality standard “Planer am Bau” (quality management system for architects and engineers

In order to achieve our aim of continuous improvement, the “Planer am Bau” working group at formTL optimises internal work processes.
