Stand Mercedes-Benz IAA 09 Frankfurt
For many years Mercedes uses the genius loci of the 100 year old exhibition hall in Frankfurt to present its latest cars and visions on Europe’’s most important automobile fair. Depending on the light situation, the membrane structure of semi-transparent mesh-fabric is sculptural or only a veil which allows a glimpse of the hall structure.
Architect Kauffmann Theilig & Partner
A light membrane structure of mesh fabric is spanned over the exhibition room. It consists of 110
panels
in which are included lens-shaped cuts for the spotlights to illuminate the cars.
A steel cable spans the membrane structure to the outer border of the existing steel structure. With 2 rings of
10 and 8,5 m Ø and a pneumatic "membrane ball" with 13 m Ø cone tops and low points as well as a room designed
full of suspense with different biaxial bended surfaces are formed.
